Use of Computer-Based Technologies and Internet-Based Audio Material in Instruction in K-12 Classrooms
Abstract
The Historical Voices Educators' Forum project concerns itself with the educational use of authentic aural artifacts in a bid to improve teachers' practices and pedagogy. The Forum aims to disseminate digitized materials through a variety of web interfaces tailored for use by students, teachers and faculty at institutions of higher education. The primary focus is in finding ways in which teachers can effectively use the digitized audio artifacts in their teaching in a manner that enriches students' learning experiences. Working with teachers and administrators in two school districts in urban settings after two years, we are able to identify a limited number of factors that are attributable to teachers' successful integration of aural artifacts to improve their classroom instruction. Furthermore, the Forum's website includes a number of successful lessons that utilize an interdisciplinary approach to teaching.
